Depression

Everyone gets sad from time to time, and suffering is an inevitable part of life. But when sadness is persistent and gets in the way of you living your daily life, it might be worthwhile to consider if you’re experiencing depression. Many who are going through depression say “I feel sad, but not about anything in particular.” Here are some common signs of depression:

    • Sleep issues
    • Change in diet
    • Difficulty in your relationships
    • Low energy
    • Trouble focusing
    • Loss of interest in things that were once important to you
    • A sense of hopelessness or feeling as if things will never get better

Sometimes depression is just a result of being burned out and working too much, feeling as if it’s hard to keep up with all the demands of your life. Other times depression started as a result of a major life event like a loss or a big transition.

How can therapy help?
One of the first things we notice in working with depression is that people tend to feel like there’s nothing to look forward to. We might start by simply helping you find more things to look forward to. Beliefs of “I’m worthless” and “no one cares” are common. We help you find new ways of looking at your situation, which in turn changes the way you feel.

We also help you identify the things you’re no longer doing as a result of your depression, and then help you find ways to start doing them again. We help you get your sleep and diet back on track, and repair the ways that depression may have bruised your relationships. We also use some mindfulness to help you have a better awareness of your thoughts and feelings and to reconnect with your purpose in life.

At the end of your treatment, you’ll walk away with a restored sense of worth and an ability to handle your life’s demands. You’ll have tools that you can continue using well beyond the end of therapy.

Some stress is inevitable, but you don’t need to feel anxious. Make an appointment for therapy today.
