Land Acknowledgment

We would like to acknowledge that The Messy Truth is located on the traditional lands of the Lenape, Manahatin, Canarsie, Shinnecock, Reckgawanc, Munsee, and Haudenosaunee peoples. During the colonial era and early federal period, many who lived on the traditional territory of the Lenni-Lenape, known as “Lenapehoking,” were forcibly displaced by European colonizers to present day Oklahoma and Canada. Today, descendants remain among the continuing historical tribal communities of the region— The Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Tribal Nation, the Ramapough Lendape Nation, and the Powhatan Renape Nation, The Nanticoke of Millsboro Delaware, and the Lenape of Cheswold Delaware. We recognize, honor, and respect all of their ancestors as the traditional stewards of the lands and water on which The Messy Truth is now present. We are committed to resisting colonialism through the support of Indigenous-led programming and offering resources to Indigenous clients seeking therapy.
